Attracting New Sponsors

Several CEOs mentioned recently their desire to reach new and, at times, non-endemic sponsors to association programs.  You might consider a few tactics...

1. New sponsors need metrics - since the sponsor may not have been with you before as an "industry supporter" delivering excellent numbers are a requirement.
2. Budget timing - I'm speaking to prospects now to prep for an October budget cyle and a JUNE 2012 opportunity.  If you are not in the budget cycle, it's less likely the prospect will spend on an unknown association property.
3. Package it - Year-long packages with diverse opportunities.  A "one off" meeting will need to be pretty spectacular to gain interest.
4. Access - Engage organization leadership in your plans.  Sponsors most likely want access to industry leaders.  If your leadership embraces this role, the likelihood for success goes up...big time.
