"If you don't make mistakes, very little is being accomplished."
I am hopeful this is true, because my career has a few doosies. Humbly, I share some insights and hopefully the lessons learned.
1. Didn't trust the client and still moved forward. What a mistake! During the sales process I think people are actually on their best behavior. If your due diligence and referrals (you do referrals on prospects, don't you?) sends up red flags. Stop. Now. It isn't worth it.
2. Didn't read the fine print. If you cut enough deals, the contracts all start to look the same. Treat each contract as a new, separate transaction. Act like your job, your business is dependent on the details of each contract. It is.
3. Good relationship and assumed the deal is done. The great obvious - the job is never finished until the contract is delivered. Ever had a program at 90% likelihood to close and the next time you hear from "your buddy" they have chosen the competition? I have, and it was my fault.
Next posting....my greatest sales moments!
