PDA Your Organization. Soon.

If you don’t have your communications PDA ready soon you are cooked.

Here’s why. Increasingly these devices are central if not the primary communications tool for the busy executive. Our members become frustrated if your enewsletters can’t be read easily in their wireless device of choice. I am seeing it first hand at SmartBrief. Members of all types of associations are embracing SB’s wireless platform.

Check out a wireless brief at smartbrief.com.

I believe this even more if members are C-Suite folks. Senior level executives need information brief and compatible with their Blackberry, Trio, IPhone or device of choice.

Here’s the other thing. Associations need to be front and center every day. I’d bet good money your members are receiving daily news about their industry, the question is whether these key groups get the information from you or not. If they are not, then your association value suffers. The weekly briefing just isn’t good enough. Weekly updates are becoming a little like the old monthly magazine. It’s out of date before members receive it.

When I worked with business guru Michael Treacy on the Chamber’s “Competitive Association” project some general weaknesses became evident for associations. Communications and technology were, in general, undercapitalized and not core competencies. Now these two areas of business are converging. While this isn’t a fatal flaw, the environment could be dangerous for associations not improving and innovating its communications functions now. Dramatically.

Hope you have had a great Summer. Let's get back after it!
